Asylum

Sipping on a dark coffee Staring at the smoke after every puff He finds a home away from home A motherland now crippled By a handful of selfish humans  The bullet finally replaced his ballot She had told him she was his alone Now in a land that is not even his He wanders to wonder How it ended with such ease Months behind closed doors  Living through lively nights and dead days She doesn’t like the girl in the mirror Lowering her gaze under the light Wishing days could only be nights But it took only close to an overnight For her to get to know she was the pearl In the dark sea’s deep depth Controversies and toxic feuds  Another is like a refugee in a land of his own The rut getting deeper but camaraderie stronger But with a playful weekend for them all Even the scars are starting to fade  Perhaps asylum has sought them عبدالجبار  Kampala Nov 2023

Subtle Elations

I   am still learning how to walk The talk has been a big part of me Getting all your adrenaline rushing Only to call in and find me  Barely started with my race As I make baby steps A talk starts to walk about What is he up to these days? My limbs threaten to quit  But my subconscious sleeps on it This walk is getting better Better and better every other day I only hope I don't wander I am also learning to be much calmer Everytime that I feel closer I feel a deep love For my brothers  Everytime I see them having my back These men from other mothers They've been pillars in my deepest agonies At least I am breathing Always up and kicking Reaching out for the best And having it together with the rest A lesson many young men haven't Lord am grateful My glass is half full but my heart is full I often shrink but you always magnify me My chest is warm amidst these hustle horrors But I equally grin within, I'm freaking elated Jabbar, Nov 2023

Trivial Walls

Only One knows Where I get this courage To smile in the worst of days And be gratified with the least of bread In an age that has lost all trust in us The genuine smiles being only diplomatic With barbed strings attached to generosity Only turning you and I more skeptical Somewhere in the hearts of men Still lies benevolence As homo sapiens, Filling our emptiness with camaraderie Is one subtle essential often ignored So take the first step Be the reason behind another's smile Shut out all the pessimism Give selflessly The world will have every reason to giveback. عبدالجبار  Kampala 18/10/23

Backbone of the Glow

I am trying to live a full life again Though it all seems like yesterday If memories could only be written in pencil, My brain's wrinkles would be lesser. As erasing would no longer be much of a pain I am still learning how to look within  To find my gem amongst the rocks. Seems further everytime I reach out Feels heavier everytime I reach it. Throwing me into a merry-go-round of déja Vus My arms are still wrapped around consistency though. I am starting to see things inside out Or rather, upside down, whatever! I will get me a rose flower tonight To give more thought to the beauty... ...of the thorns on the stem from which she stood out. 'cause her charming petals may not really last.

Not Yet...

Before you step out this day Take caution You're gonna see a lot of ways That claim to be the solution Yet only swaying you away Take caution Everyone else is thinking their own way Yet the world is as well filled with notions  Claiming 'wisdom' so you have neither say Nor freedom to take the right decision As you return from your day Know that this world hasn't the ultimate satisfaction Something way better awaits So let it be only a contribution To your best life after the end of days. As you let this sink Consider quitting the rat race Or just dont let it be The only race you ever ran.. ..for there is one better That you could actually  win. The choice is yours though, Jabbar

Curbing Extremes: Mind, Body, Soul

Life is a broad spectrum of things, experiences, people, places, and much more. From this, we get a chance to learn timeless lessons that are truly priceless. Most of the older generation tends to have seen a lot more than the younger one often times, making them a primary source of all these beautiful lessons. However, there are but a few key areas that at least every individual's life rotates around. No matter the generation, the importance of knowledge, good bodily health, and cleansed souls cannot be ignored at any one point. Though most of us realize this a bit late, so what is the least we can do?  Convenience is all we've ever sought ever since the invention of the wheel. We are an intelligent species, solving everything that seems like a problem in our eyes. Even when the solution is a greater problem. With the emergence of companies Jumia and the like, you might not leave your seat to buy the smallest item. Even your nearest Duuka gives free del

Unlearning Encoding

As I read, so I shall write. The written word has indeed thrived over the centuries. An art that gave the few who harnessed it ranks over men of their nations, from Socrates, to Shakespeare to J.K Rowling, the list is endless. This is indeed one of the most reliable mediums our forefathers have been able to communicate with us. Giving you the feeling of the presence in their past, long gone moments. What other conceivable way have we to make use of that is suitable,...for every edge?  This brings us to this part for as I listen, I shall grasp . Call it oral culture. To date, some societies have clung to this and have nevertheless thrived equally, or even profoundly more than others. Word for word, books like the Quran have been passed down over to generations through a period of more than 1400 years. Earlier, the process of memorizing involved off-head recitation, then later encoded and compiled into the text from which most Muslims of today now pick it. This is one book

Blind Emulation.

A heavy head from an active Friday night is all you have left. Forgetting your worries and living your fantasies was your reason. Now here you still are, sober enough to remember your bills, your landlord's share from your monthly peanuts and ofcourse, the little one's welfare. You meant to create joy and happiness from it only to end up with bad breath, a terribly intoxicated body and suspicion getting you craving for as many more pills in the name of security and prevention. It must be crazy out there. I know. It is crazy out there. In every hundred of us, the majority continues to contain this same syndrome. Working like a horse from Monday through the week to Friday, where the party gets started. And then there comes the weekend getting you to sleep like a koala in your would have been most useful time. Hold it. Now Hold it a bit. Take a deep breath and then you can read on. I got some bitter truths about you on the low you might wanna ponder on. Don't wo

A little adventure

LITTLE ADVENTURE. IMG_2126.JPG Jabar Yunus. Acknowledgement. You- thank you for looking at this, keep going. You’ll like it I promise. Aunty Edine - you’ve got the eye Jabar. Thanks a lot for making me realize the beauty of photography. Mom- You bought a house near the longest river in the world. U made this adventure possible. Myself- I thank myself for having an open mind. This kept me going. Chapter One. The only chapter ’what a view!’ I thought. I wished u could reach it. That morning I had left home assuring Etteby of bow I could come back with fish no matter what. ’It’s just a matter of talking to the fishermen nicely, and they would let me hook out at least one fish from the waters, ’ I said to her. ’Good luck, ’ she said in a doubtful voice. ’Thanks’ I said as I left. Molex resort wasn't from home. It was just by the river side. A friend of mine worked there. The place had nice paintings around it.
